A long time back I wrote an entry about “Making Right Choices”. It gets more hits than any other entries on my blog. I see people searching for ‘how to make right choices’, ‘what does the Bible say about making right choices’ etc. I can understand people’s dilemma, because at some point in my life this was a BIG question. I would sit and wonder, God, how do I know which one is right choice for me.
Years have rolled by since then and I have learnt something new about making right choices, especially after I moved to Delhi and joined a small Church called New Generation in Saket, South Delhi. This church has blessed me with sound and practical teachings. Life changing experience. Many of my thoughts and views have become clearer to me in past one year.
One thing that gave me so much of rest about making right choices is that it is really not as complicated as we think it is. It is not so much about the choices it self but what intentions and motives we carry. In fact in God, we have so much of freedom in making choices. The key to this freedom is – knowing God intimately. When you have an intimate relationship with God, you know His heart. When you know God’s heart, he touches your heart and aligns your heart to His heart. The way to become intimate to God is through an attitude of worship, simple obedience and listening to his voice through scriptures or in quite moments. No one can give you the kind of confidence and assurance that you can get from being close and right with God. When your heart is aligned with God, there will be no room for doubt or fear in decisions you make. Because your intentions and your motives are clear before God. You get clarity about God’s heart for the situation and you get clarity about the hearts of people involved in the decision. You will have total peace in making right choices.
And really what is important in a decision. That it serves your purpose? Who is the center of your decision? If you have a heart to please God, He will never fail you nor let you down. But if you ‘worship’ yourself and seek to please your self what can I say – no promises for you. If you suffer doubt and fear you can make a simple choice of repenting from it and seeking to worship God. Everything else will fall in place.
Many times we have to make choices that are not between right or wrong. They are simply many available options. And many times we get stuck with – which one is the will of God. I think as long as your motives are intact you could make choices as you like and ask God to bless you. And never doubt – oh had I chosen that college or that job my life would have been better, maybe I missed the will of God. Oh, that’s just an excuse. Check your self, you are just being lazy. Be responsible for the choices you make. We can’t avoid working hard, can we? God is interested in the state of your heart. God weighs a person by the intent of his or her heart. God is more concerned about the person you become as a result of your choices.
